Lovin' Lomo

My love for lomography is always there it is just a little bit stronger today. You see, I finally put my film in to be developed from my trip to the States last month. And when I got them back I was one happy bunny, here is why...

1. I had never tried the fancy red scale XR film that gives you cool, muted tones.
(ISO 50-200...but I think I set mine lower around 30, even riskier!)
2. My old Pentax was having light metering problems which had me worried.
3. I thought I'd ripped the film and would lose it all..eh hem.

i <3 the sun flare

me in downtown Phoenix

The film gives pretty cool results, don't you think? It also helped that the Arizona desert just happens to have the perfect conditions to shoot said film. Really excited to use it again now...hopefully the sunshine will be out this weekend!

If you fancy trying it out for yourself you can get it at your local Lomo stockist or online...here

My Weekend...

This weekend I mainly worked but when I took a break it was a good one. My ol' pal E picked me up on his motorbike and we scooted up into the new territories. Our ride was quite an adventure; we snacked on luncheon meat noodles and milk (at an old Dairy Farm), saw a real life tortoise - he must've been a billion years old, oh and we almost drove into China...!

I also discovered how to do this hair...via here

Weekend Wander

For the first time in weeks the sun showed itself in Hong Kong this weekend. Long over due i say!
So I took the opportunity to venture outside to work (no rest for the wicked) and snapped these on my way to the park.

30C in March not too bad!

Bamboo(zled)

Saw this today, quite amazing. They had managed to get this done in about an hour. I get shivers just thinking about hanging off bamboo that high...

Fabric Markets are Awesome!

Took a trip to the fabric market (more like a fabric district it's so huge) over the weekend. The best place to get inspired for getting crafty and doing some DIY.

Offerings...

Just the other day I witnessed some ladies leaving offerings and candles at the wall of an old Police building on Hollywood Road...

I am unsure as to what they were paying respect to (not the wall gods as one friend suggested) but I was keen to go back and take photos as it seemed very interesting. Only problem was I left it too late (sad face). All that is left now, is wax on the ground and small fragments of paper on the wall.

Apologies but it's too good not to...

Whilst searching for a gift for my mum's birthday I came across this, only in Hong Kong.
Happy Monday Peeps!

Growing...

So a few months back (maybe even 6 - eek!) the boy came home with some very interesting Gashapon toys. (for those alien to the wonderful world of Gasha, click here)
I was expecting a new camera related toy so you can guess how surprised I was when it was these little guys...

Real life Cacti, in miniature greenhouses!
I wasn't sure how they would survive but after some TLC they have grown into these...

I am more than impressed, only problem is how do I get them out of the plastic into a bigger container...

Eco-thinking...

I had been invited by Redress to a Design Academy seminar they were hosting with ecochic design award and the British Council about Sustainable Fashion. The event was to educate designers and students on how to be more eco-friendly when designing and making garments. Two of the speakers I found particularly interesting, the first of which builds her collections from 'waste' fabrics/garments of the other companies and creates new designs from them. Orsola de Castro formed 'From Somewhere' in 1997 and her approach to designing within the limits of the fabrics she scavenges was inspiring as well as eco friendly!

I was especially keen to hear the final speaker which was blogger Geneva of A Pair and a Spare. Her segment was discussing 'Reconstruction' and she showed some of her DIY projects that she had done as well as her top ten tips to upcycle/reconstruct old and found clothes:
  1. Get Involved - don't be scared!
  2. Be Inspired - check out whats hot and on trend
  3. Know your fabrics
  4. Adjust the silhouette
  5. Change the length
  6. Embellishment - Sham Shui Po is a great resource
  7. Finish - make it look like a shop bought garment

It was an very inspiring morning.
Now, where can I get a sewing machine...
